HDR Photography Produces Realistic Images
Thursday, April 29th, 2010There is a new movement in photography called hdr photography. HDR photography, also known as high dynamic range imaging photography uses several particular techniques which allow there to be a larger range between the lighter and darker parts of any image. This range is much larger than any other methods of photography or standard imaging techniques allows. Using these techniques allows for a more realistic images, with the large range of lighting found in real life.
There are different ways to create images using hdr photography. You can either use a composite of many pictures or you can use computer renderings. There are computer programs available on the market to help you make these images. Tone mapping is one of the techniques used in making hdr photos. Tone mapping is a process which maps one set of colors to another set of colors. This helps to preserve the intensity of colors found in real life. When it comes to the images produced by these techniques, many people think that they are illustrations or completely computer generated. They aren’t, of course, but they have been enhanced by all the techniques used in hdr, which makes the images look spectacular, and true to life, capturing all the colors and light intensities.
This style of images has become much more popular in the last few years because as the technology increases its ability to show more true to life images, people demand more realistic looking images. It’s hdr photography that provides that natural look. Plus, with the availability to the general public of many different graphics and online tutorials in making hdr images, it is easier than ever to create these breathtaking images. Almost anyone, with access to the proper tools, can alter their own images to look more realistic.
The style of hyper-realistic photography that is hdr photography isn’t going to be leaving anytime soon. As more and more people become aware of the images that they see that have been created using these techniques, they are going to want more. Some of those people are going to look at those images and think “I could do that too”, and start looking into what it takes to make their own hdr images, which will only push the popularity of hdr photography even further. As the popularity grows, the techniques and technology will just be driven further, to be able to create even better images.
