Visit Titanic Shipwreck in 2011 for $40k
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010The 40k Titanic dive is quickly becoming the hottest Titanic news since its discovery in 1985. For one of the first times in history, anybody can witness the Titanic wreck-for a price. As one would imagine, the 40k dive costs a whopping $40,000 a person. The expedition will begin on the Akademik Keldysh vessel and feature two MIR submersibles that will take guests to the Titanic’s watery grave. The Akademik Keldysh is the best deep-diving support vessel in the world and reknown for visiting the RMS Titanic shipwreck on over 100 occasions. Owned and operated by the Moscow based P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, the crew of scientists has worked together for over 17 years and participated in numerous deep sea expeditions.
MIR I and II are deep diving submersibles that are capable of reaching 20,000 feet. These amazing vessels are two of only five deep-diving vessels that are available to the world’s scientific community. Constructed of nickel steel, they are designed to withstand enormous amounts of pressure and keeping the interior at a constant pressure.
The journey will begin by lowering the pilot and passengers of each MIR into the Atlantic using a crane mounted on the Keldysh. The submersibles will begin their slow decent to the ocean floor which will take about 2.5 hours. The depth of the expedition will be about the size of ten Empire State Buildings stacked atop of each other. Once at the Titanic survivors wreck, you will be able to explore it for about 2 or 3 hours, but won’t be able to salvage any Titanic artifacts. The exterior lights will now be turned on in order for you to be able to see the Titanic shipwreck in all its glory.
Once you’ve explored the Titanic wreck, the ballast water will be pumped out and you will begin your ascent. Since this process takes a lot of battery power, your ascent might be a bit slower than your descent. Once back on the surface, you will be able to enjoy a Russian sauna treatment and will receive a video of the event complete with pre-recorded footage and some of the footage that was collected during your own expedition. The Titanic community is going to love this at Encyclopedia Titanica.
The 40k Titanic cruise is expected to be one of the most popular Titanic events of all time and put a few individuals into an exclusive club that is rarer than going into space. The 40k Titanic expedition has everything you will need to enjoy the legendary Titanic and allow you to witness the shipwreck first hand. Although a pretty penny to participate in, the $40,000 includes accommodations on the Keldysh, first class meals, and transportation to and from St. John’s.
