Filing taxes for the unemployed – is it really necessary?
There are certain things that we do which we feel or think that we should not be doing but had to. It is like brushing your teeth at night; you know you need to do it because not doing it will cause serious damage on your teeth later on. I guess you can say the same thing about filing taxes. Though you only do this every year, it is still a painful thing to do because you need to go through what has happen for the year. This has to be done diligently because you do not want the government to accuse you of fraud. Even though it is stressful to do this, it is better off remembering the earnings that you have for a year. Now what about if you are unemployed? ‘do i file taxes on unemployment?’ The answer is a big yes. Even though you do not have an income for six months, you still have to put that in when you file for your yearly income tax. I guess this is the government’s way of tracking down people’s employment and unemployment and your activity as a citizen in your country. As you have been out of work for some time and have just recently got work, there are unemployment benefits non taxable which the government considers. Of course, the government is lenient in dealing with these types of income tax because they are well aware that you are just recovering from your old lifestyle. Do not feel bad if the government is asking you to do this, remember that this is also for your welfare. If you want them to help you, you need to help them as well.
