I Appreciate a Government which Provides Bereavement Benefits

A death in the family is one of the most traumatic experiences a person can go through. If the family itself isn’t doing so well financially, this can make an already traumatic event even worse. For families which are more well off, they can usually purchase insurance or some other product, which provides benefits in case a particular person dies, but again, for families in difficult times, this type of private insurance may not be a viable solution. So it can be quite appreciated when the government steps in, and provides benefits to families with low incomes, in the event of a death.

It can be a fairly confusing situation though. For instance, if a death were to occur in my own home, I’m sure I would be quite distraught and not thinking or feeling right. So questions such as which benefits agency or office to turn to, how to go about claiming a benefit, where to get documents required and so on, would be really difficult to work through. I just don’t know if I could do that all myself if I were to lose someone I loved, so it would be almost required for me to have someone I could trust to help me with all that, someone who can think rationally and methodically.

There are quite a number of bereavement benefits which may be available, depending on a person’s specific circumstances, which again is of great help. Some financial assistance, for instance, might be available to help defray the costs of a funeral. A payment or allowance might be available, for someone who has lost a spouse or civil partner, and in some cases, a payment may be tax-free. At times and in certain cases, loans or grants may be made available in the event of a loved one’s death.

I can really appreciate these types of benefits. I hope that I won’t ever have to avail of them myself, but I can empathize with families and family members, who are struggling to cope with someone’s death, so that the last thing that they should have to worry about is how to pay for a funeral, or how to pay for expenses with a breadwinner gone.
